Monthly Archives: November 2015

November Recap!

Hey guys hey guys! Have you realized that December starts TOMORROW???
Before we officially get into the nuttiness of the month of December (the amount of plans that are piling up is ASTOUNDING but good for the blog lol), I thought I’d look back at all that happened in November!

I had an amazing vacation in Asheville!
I accomplished 3 items on my 101 in 1001 list! I hosted a successful giveaway, had a post reach 100 views and had the best baked goods in Baltimore from Artifact Coffee!
I finished the book The Cuckoo’s Calling (which was INCREDIBLE) and started This Summer (already totally hooked) for the Semi-Charmed Winter Book Challenge!
I ran another 5k–obviously in a bear hat ๐Ÿ˜‰

I had two terrific Thanksgiving dinners–that’s right, I said TWO!  Oh man, tomorrow’s weigh-in is going to be ROUGH!
And since Thanksgiving is officially over, I let myself start to get into Christmas by singing along with Kelly Clarkson’s “My Grown-Up Christmas List” and watching Christmas television episodes, including the episode of Happy Endings with Hip-Hop Santa.
November has been wonderful, but don’t forget about all the Cyber Monday goodness of today (and let me know if you find anything great!), and tomorrow begins an awesome Instagram challenge from some of my favorite Baltimore blogging babes, Macy, Megan, Laura and Annie!  I’ll be joining in, and I hope you will, too!

What Leftovers?

Happy Turkey Recovery Day!

While some of you are out braving the stores on Black Friday, others of you are staring at a pile of leftovers, wondering what to do with them.  I can’t help you get to the front of the line at Target, but some fellow bloggers and I can help you figure out how to turn those leftovers into some other delicious meals.
Leftovers used: Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce–really anything you can stuff into a roll!
Leftovers used: Turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes!

How Lea Michele Can Get Your Groove Back

I am a full believer in needing goals in life. If you have nothing that you’re working towards, then your existence is going to feel stagnant.  I’m not saying that it’s essential to have world-changing goals. Maybe your main goal is to stop burning your dang Pop Tarts…hey, unburnt Pop Tarts are important!

But seriously, goals are important to feeling energized in life. Why do you think people have bucket lists? It’s to make sure that they are getting the most out of life.
Where do you begin? Well, one way is with Lea Michele.
Okay, you’re probably thinking, “Why should I trust Lea Michele to help me towards my best life?” Well, think about it. Lea has worked on two successful television shows, been on Broadway, has written a New York Times bestselling book AND has a ridiculously fit body. With all that going for her, I decided to give her journal a shot.
The main purpose of the book is to try to get you to focus on yourself and your needs. Michele isn’t encouraging you to ignore the others in your life, but I know that I could stand to take a few minutes to journal about my exercise routine for a day or to think about how my family has impacted me over the years.
The Fitness and Nutrition sections are really helpful because they encourage me to take some time and really think about not only what I’m eating and doing but also how those things are making me feel. Some days I feel great after a workout, and sometimes I just feel overwhelmed and worn out. It does help to stop and think about why each of those emotions bubble to the surface and keep them in mind for the next time I hit the gym.
The part that really struck me to the core though is the first section about Family. It made me realize that I really don’t know that much about my father’s side of the family. As a child of divorce, I didn’t spend too much time with my father’s family growing up, and even though we’re closer now, there is a lot about my family’s history that is still a question mark to me. As I read through You First, I realized that it might be time to ask those questions.
It’s almost time to be making New Year’s resolutions–this book definitely helped steer me towards a few resolutions to help better myself in 2016!
I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.

Weigh-In #13: The One with The Winner!

Happy Weigh-in Tuesday, folks!  It turns out that if my weight were an age, it would be legal for it to drink because I’ve lost 21 pounds!!!

Exercise

I was able to go running 3 times in the past week, although the first time was more of a run/walk because I was running with someone else.  I really really REALLY wanted to go to Zumba class on Saturday, but I was having problems with a stupid flat tire and felt like it was a bad idea to forgo getting my car fixed just to be able to “dance it out.”

Home Cookin’

And now what you’ve all been waiting for–the winner of the $25 Gift Card to Etsy is….
Sarah Elizabeth!!!

Congratulations Sarah!  I’m emailing you the gift card this morning!

Five on Friday: Five Things I’m Doing to Get Ready for Thanksgiving

Happy Friday everyone!

I can’t BELIEVE that Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday) is next week!!!  And I’m especially lucky this year because I’ll be attending TWO Thanksgiving dinners, one with my family on Thanksgiving Day, and one with Boyfriend’s family the next day.  Ohhhh I’m already putting myself into a comfort food coma.
But there are a few things that I need to accomplish before sitting down in front of the turkey and yams–here are five of them:
1. Watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Because nothing says “Happy Thanksgiving” like the traditional toast, jelly beans and popcorn ๐Ÿ˜‰
2. Watch the Friends Thanksgiving Episode with Brad Pitt

All of the Friends Thanksgiving episodes are fantastic, but this one still makes me laugh like CRAZY every time I watch it.  It’s sad to think that this was before Brad and Jennifer broke up, but I quickly forget because Brad is just so so so funny in this episode.  Oh right, and Joey does this:
3. Find a recipe for pistachio pie

This is the first year that I’ll be eating dinner with Boyfriend’s family (even though it’s a day late).  Boyfriend told me that his grandmother used to make pistachio pie every year for Thanksgiving and that he loved.  So this year, as my addition to the feast, I’m going to try to make one myself.  I’m sure it won’t hold a candle to his grandmother’s pie, but maybe it’ll at least bring back some happy memories for him ๐Ÿ™‚
4. Make My “Thankful For” List

Every year, we go around the table and say what we’re thankful for.  Sometimes I think of an acrostic or a little poem, but this year, I’m just going to speak from the heart, and I’m sure that I’ll mention how thankful I am that Boyfriend is with us this year.
5. Prep for Cyber Monday!

There is NO WAY that I’m setting foot in a store on Black Friday, but I’m excited to find out what deals are coming around for Cyber Monday!  Ohhh Amazon and Modcloth, what will you have for me this year????
Don’t forget about the giveaway for the $25 Etsy Gift Card!  There’s still time to enter!

If the Shoe(s) Fit…

*This is a sponsored post for the Alterre Holiday Launch Giveaway, powered by Brandbacker.*

Oh, shoes.  Why must you be so dang adorable but so dang pricey???

When I was in Asheville last week, I walked through shoe stores, longingly gazing at shoes and wishing that my bank account would allow me to take them all home!  I would love to have several pairs of cute shoes to mix and match, instead of rockin the same ole look everyday.
Wait…that’s possible?  With one pair of shoes?!?!?!
Enter Alterre.
With Alterre’s Black Heel Starter Kit, you can have 3 adorable pairs of shoes in one!  You can wear the base shoe as a pair of black mules, snap on a black Jackie strap for a adorable pair of black heels, or add the midnight Marilyn strap to add a burst of color!  3 pairs of shoes for $180!  And honestly, who doesn’t want to channel their inner Jackie O or Marilyn Monroe?
The Starter Kit also comes with a convenient travel bag, in case you want to swap out your style while you’re on the go!
There are many more styles and colors, but it isn’t just the cute shoes that make me a fan of this brand. I truly adore that Alterre gives 5% of their proceeds to the women’s abuse shelter, Restore NYC. There are few things that I respect more in the world than a company that gives back.
And now Alterre is giving back to you!  You can win a Black Heel Starter Kit from Alterre (valued at $180)!
