Wedding Wednesday: My Bridal Shower!

I’m not going to lie: my bridal shower was one of the greatest days of my life! I had the very best day. Everything was so beautiful and perfect. There were laughs, tears (seriously, I’m a weeper), and sooooo many yummy goodies. But let me break it down for ya, so that you can enjoy it just like I did!

The Theme

For years, I’ve been saying that I wanted my bridal shower to be a tea party. Amazingly, my mom and my gals remembered this, and a tea party it was! Despite the fact that it was close to 90 degrees outside, everyone still joined me in a spot of tea!

The Decorations

I started seeing the beautiful directions as I drove up the street! Big balloons floated above my mom’s front porch. My mom had hanging baskets of flowers hanging around our porch swing, and my bridesmaid Macy had set up a ladder display with our initials wrapped in floral fabric and pretty flowers. It was perfect for a photo shoot! Oh, and I got to take everything home, so I’m planning to recreate this display in my office!

IMG_3323

Walking into the house, I saw even more flowers! There were floral banners hanging from the tables and flowers in vases. I felt as though I was in a beautiful spring garden! My aunt even made this vase with a picture of C and me inside of it!

Above the sangria (we’ll talk more about yummy food in a minute) were pictures of C and me throughout the past 4 years. Everyone was laughing at our “signature pose,” which I honestly had never realized that I did!

And the porch…well, let’s just say that it moved me to tears. It was so elegant and gorgeous. It was more than I ever could have imagined for my bridal tea party!

The Food

I wish I had more pictures of the food, but my bridesmaid Caitlin and her wife Susie catered the event. Oh my goodness, it was amazing. Everything was so dainty but was full of flavor. And bacon-chive butter? Yes please!

IMG_3319

Because of the hot day, there were several cool and delicious drinks. Macy brought two types of sangria, and Caitlin and Susie brought a strawberry mint punch and cucumber water. Needless to say, they were all drained to the dregs by the end of the day.

And my aunt brought this gorgeous (and delicious) cake! The perfect cake for a tea party (complete with Friends quote!)

IMG_3318

The Games

We played 4 games at the shower, and I was so happy that everyone participated! The first was a “What’s in Your Purse” game, which had all of the ladies digging through their purses to see who had the most items on the list. Ladies at my shower, I love you, but y’all are hoarders (just kidding lol).

This was followed up with a game testing the ladies’ trivia about ME! My favorite part of that game was how two of my friends were texting their husbands to see if they knew the answers!

Before we broke into bridal shower bingo (one of my FAVES), my mom had a special game for me. She had asked C questions about himself in advance, and I had to guess the answers. I only got 2 and a half of them wrong, which I thought was pretty impressive! My favorite thing about that game was that apparently C didn’t know the answer to one of the questions about himself, and instead he changed the question!

IMG_3344

The Gifts

I seriously have the most generous friends and family. It took two cars full of gifts to get them all home! Some made me laugh (like my sloth salad bowl!) and some made me cry (like the special reservations for dinner on our honeymoon, and the sleeve from my grandmother’s wedding dress), but every single gift was appreciated and loved.

The Special Touches

My mom and my girls did a great job including special nostalgic touches into the day. My “guest book” was a teapot that sat on an antique tea cart! And this adorable sign just melted my heart:

Again, without a doubt, best day ever to date!

Looking to Bloggers for Suggestions

Happy Tuesday everyone! As a blogger, I love reading others’ blogs. I like hearing about the bloggers’ lives and seeing their awesome pictures. But most of all, I’ve found that bloggers make the best recommendations! Here are just a few that have truly steered me in the right direction!

Xtreme Glass Water Bottle from Carolina Charm

via
via

Earlier this year, Christina from Carolina Charm recommended an amazing water bottle that she bought for her sister. C had been wanting to drink more water, and I really liked how in addition to milliliters, this bottle measures how much water you should drink per hour! I got it for C for his birthday, and now he uses it everyday!

Garnier Whole Blends from Borrowed Heaven

via
via

Before we went on vacation in April (you know, that trip when I got engaged!), I read about Garnier Whole Blends shampoos and conditioners from Meg at Borrowed Heaven. So once we arrived at the Winn-Dixie in Crawfordville, Florida to stock up for the week, I immediately grabbed some of the Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures conditioner–and now I love it! I feel like it makes my hair smells so amazing, and a brush just slides through any potential tangles!

Diablo Doughnuts from Soup of the Day

via
via

I love me some donuts.

Because of this, when I read about Diablo Doughnuts from Megan at Soup of the Day, I knew that I needed to have them. And luckily for me, my bridesmaid made sure to include them at our engagement brunch!

Has a blogger influenced you to purchase something?

Five on Friday: Five Ways I’m Marshall Eriksen

Happy Friday everyone! So, today’s post is for those of you that love How I Met Your Mother. If you’re not a fan, then have a great weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday. Okay, now that we’re back to Super HIMYM Fans only, I’m going to tell you about the epiphany I had yesterday: I am very much Marshall Eriksen.

via
via

There are a bunch of reasons why I believe this, but here are five of them:

1. He makes up songs.

via
via

Marshall is known for singing about…well…everything. Those of you who know me are well aware that I do the same thing. Especially about Linus. Oh, have you not heard my Meghan Trainor parody entitled “All About that Face”?

2. He loves him some good food.

via
via

Marshall and chicken wings is basically me and pizza. Especially Giordano’s…sigh… Oh and at my wedding, people shouldn’t try to talk to me while I’m eating my slice of chocolate stout cake. It’s best for everyone.

3. He keeps up on celebrity gossip.

via
via

Come on, you KNOW that when you’re at the doctor’s office or getting your hair cut, you TOTALLY read “Stars Are Just Like Us” in US Weekly.

4. He loves gossip in general.

via
via

Okay, I don’t want to love gossip, but damn, it’s just so frickin’ inviting! I know that if one of my friends was out all night and woke up with a stranger (and a pineapple) that I’d be damn curious, too!

5. He knows true love.

via
via

He may not be starry-eyed Ted, but Marshall knows that Lily is his true love. That’s how I feel about C, and when I think of our future, I hope it’s just like Marshall and Lily’s.

Thoughts for Thursday: Almost Shower Edition

In truth, ALL I am thinking about is my bridal shower on Sunday! I’m so frickin’ excited! But I suppose there are a few other thoughts rattling around in my brain, so here are a few of them:

ThoughtsforThursday

Nail Polish Attack!

nail-varnish-944858_1280

So yesterday I was driving to work when I noticed that there was a huge green blob on my arm! I started to freak out, wondering what kind of fungus or flesh-eating bacteria had attacked me. It was neither. It was a huge piece of chipped-off nail polish.

Election Overload

Seriously, is it November yet? I mean, I don’t REALLY want it to be November because then I will have glossed right over the wedding, but I’m just done with election coverage. It was awesome during the Olympics because then the country could focus on that, but it seems like the minute the Closing Ceremonies were over–BAM! Back to politicians bad-mouthing each other. Le sigh.

Champion to Me…and the USA

In my former work life, I was an English teacher. One of my 8th grade English students was a girl named Tatyana McFadden. Shortly after she was my student, she began competing in the Paralympic Games…and winning medals for the USA! This year, she’ll compete in 7 events. I’m so proud to have taught her and am ready to watch her go for the gold!

Failing Decision

So one of the counties in Maryland has decided that teachers aren’t allowed to give kids grades below a 50% now. Seriously.

via GIPHY

They also are saying that teachers shouldn’t grade homework or deduct points for late assignments. So this leads me to two anger-inducing thoughts. One is that I worry the students from that county are not going to be taken seriously by colleges and universities, since they’re basically being coddled. And the other is that students really have no reason to try anymore because they know that it’s very unlikely that they’ll fail. Thoughts?

What thoughts are you having today? I’m linking up with Natalie for Thoughts for Thursday!

Wedding Wednesday: His Ring

To Travel & Beyond

Happy Wedding Wednesday! Last week, I talked about my wedding ring and its importance to me. This week, I’ll be discussing my future husband’s wedding band. It may not hold personal significance, but it is significantly AWESOME.

Even before we got engaged, C and I have discussed his potential wedding band. He never seemed overly jazzed about wearing one, and I always thought he was just humoring me. Once, he said that he wanted it with Elvish writing on the inside, like in Lord of the Rings. I was so thrilled that he was willing to someday wear a wedding band that I even looked up how to inscribe our favorite saying to each other in Elvish.

via
via

Then he started talking about having a ring made out of meteorite. I wasn’t sure what that was and considered that he might be making it up. But I researched it and it turned out that there were many rings made of meteorite!

Finally, after C popped the question, we started discussing rings in a serious manner. He knew he didn’t want a traditional ring. I started doing new research on rings, and finally we decided on this one:

via
via

I love that the ring is made from grey maple wood, since when I think of C, I think of him in nature. It still has his requested meteorite. And dinosaur bone? Seriously?!??! In person, the coolest part is the copper ring in the center. It catches the light in a beautiful way.

If I’m Being Honest

Happy Tuesday everyone! Recently, the glorious Brittany from A Healthy Slice of Slice shared a post called “If I’m Being Honest,” and I felt like the idea was right up my alley! So, without further ado, here’s a bit of honesty from me!

IMG_3283

If I’m being honest…

I’m out of my MIND excited about my bridal shower this Sunday! Last night, I was talking to one of my bridesmaids and told her that I couldn’t believe that it was finally my turn to be the bride. She told me that I deserve it and that it’s totally my turn! I’ve been so excited about this day that I bought my dress for the event 3 months ago!

bridal-168832_1920

If I’m being honest…

I occasionally watch Maury. Does it help that it’s only for the DNA results episodes? Sure, it’s probably fake, but man, the drama is just too hilarious!

via GIPHY

If I’m being honest…

It’s very difficult to not drink soda. I’ve been pretty good about it lately, but ooh man, C had an A&W Cream Soda last night, and it was so dang delicious. Maybe just one every once in a while?

What I Like About Football

It’s that time of year again! So break out your garnet and gold or your purple and black (because you KNOW that you’re rooting for the Florida State Seminoles for the Baltimore Ravens, right?) and settle in front of the TV for some FOOTBALL!

What I Like About Football

Okay, I’ll be honest…I don’t love football. I mean, I like it, but I’m not the world’s most enormous football fan. However, there are some things about football that I really like, and here are a few of them.

Team Spirit

So, if you go to a “football school,” then team spirit is ALL over the place. Florida State University is located in Tallahassee, Florida, and the town basically shuts down when the Seminoles play. I loved how much every person in the city got so excited for the start of the season, and the stadium was always packed to the gills with fans!

Extreme Fans

via
via

While I may not be the biggest football fan, I love me some other football fans. Seriously, the crazier you are about the sport the better! I have gotten together with Macy’s family before to watch a Ravens game, and I tell you, their love for the team is EPIC. It gets me even more excited about the game when there are super fans around me!

Fantasy Football

via
via

Okay, here’s my favorite part about football season–the fantasy football. I’m a little bit competitive when it comes to fantasy football. Also, I’m lying, and I’m actually RIDICULOUSLY competitive about it. This year, I’m actually in a blogger fantasy football league, and I’m super jazzed about it. C has promised to help me in my roster picks, and I think it’s better for our upcoming marriage that we’re not competing against each other this year 😉

What’s your favorite thing about football? I’m linking up with one of my favorite football fans Erin!

Check Out More Bloggers!

I had so much fun introducing all of you to some bloggers on Tuesday, so I thought I’d do it again! Here are some more bloggers that I absolutely adore!

IMG_3247

Brittany from A Healthy Slice of Life

It seems like some of my favorite bloggers are also mothers of two! Brittany’s little girls are just the cutest things, and she always has the best stories about them. What I love about Brittany’s blog is that I always feel like I’m learning something new about motherhood: how to feed the kids (and adults) healthy and delicious things, how to start baby-led weaning, how to keep the kids entertained, and how to stay grounded through it all!

Healthy Breakfast Burritos for the Freezer

If I’m Being Honest

Meg from Borrowed Heaven

Meg lives in one of my dream cities: Charleston, SC. Seriously, I am just dying to go there! But Meg is always sharing the most fun recipes and awesome experiences on her blog! She’s someone who I feel like I could talk to forever, if we were to meet up in person–and hopefully I’ll get to soon!

Charleston Culinary Tours: Upper King Street

Chicken Parmesan Calzone

Kristin from Mama and Mou

Kristin is so unbelievably sweet. When I need a guest-blogger or a question answered for a post, she always responds right away! Her kids are incredibly precious, and when she was pregnant with baby Nolan, I must say that I stalked her Instagram hard, because I was so excited to meet the newest member of their clan! I hope to make my way to the Midwest and meet her in person in the near future!

Nolan’s Nursery

Advanced Motherhood

Megan from Soup of the Day

I finally got to meet Megan yesterday, and she’s just as great in person as she is on her blog! I must admit that over the years, I had begun to get disenchanted with Baltimore, but she has taught me to love the city again! Plus, she includes dairy-free recipes on her blog, which really helps, since C is lactose-intolerant. Oh, and her pup is the cutest thing everrrrrrr.

Wedding Wednesday: My Wedding Ring

Happy Wedding Wednesday! It’s officially less than 2 months until my wedding day! Go ahead, I’ll give you a moment to happily freak out on my behalf 😉 Okay, now that you’re back, let’s talk about my wedding ring!

To Travel & Beyond

Once C and I had picked out my engagement ring, I started thinking about my future wedding ring. Since my engagement ring is rather simple, I didn’t want to get anything that would draw attention away from it. So I looked for wedding bands that my ring would fit into, but none of them struck my fancy.

I started talking to my mom about this, and then she spoke the seven words I’d been hoping to hear all along. “What if I give you my ring?”

FullSizeRender (1)

In truth, I had really wanted to wear my mom’s wedding band. It’s a simple gold band, but it comes with something worth so much more: a history. In October, I will be the fourth generation to wear that ring. That’s right–my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all wore this wedding band.

FullSizeRender

We took the ring to Jared to get it sized and polished. I could not be happier or more honored to wear it! October cannot get here soon enough!
