Wedding Wednesday: The Music

Happy Wedding Wednesday folks! It’s another super chilly day in Maryland, and I’m really started to wonder if it’s ACTUALLY March. Anyway, today I’m going to write about the music from our wedding (which I’m so proud of!):

Ceremony Music

“Sparks” by Coldplay

When we first got engaged, we originally wanted to have our first and last songs in the ceremony be by Coldplay. In the end, we decided to stick with one, and we’re so glad we chose this beautiful song with a melody that really set the tone for the ceremony. This song played while the groomsmen walked down the aisle alongside my cousins who were carrying the chuppah.

“I Wanna Hold Your Hand” from the Glee Soundtrack

When I first heard Kurt cover this Beatles tune in a Glee episode several years ago, I was blown away by its beauty. And I thought it was just the perfect fit for C walking down the aisle with his parents.

“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Katherine McPhee

Originally, I thought that “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” would be long enough for C and his parents PLUS the bridesmaids to walk down the aisle, but it wasn’t even close. Then I remembered this cover of the Judy Garland classic, which I had fallen in love with during Katherine McPhee’s American Idol season. It was the perfect length for the bridesmaids and my flower girl to walk down the aisle.

“I See the Light” from Tangled

I was sure that I was falling for C when I first saw the movie Tangled, right after his college graduation party. I couldn’t stop thinking about him, and when this song came on, I knew that I wanted us to be together. Makes it the perfect song for me walking down the aisle, right? Plus, I love me some Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.

“I’m a Believer” by Smashmouth

We wanted something fun and upbeat for the recessional, and C and I both like Smashmouth and have a long-running inside joke about them, thanks to an episode of Happy Endings. But everyone loved this cover of The Monkees’ song, and I was happy to bop back up the aisle after we were pronounced man and wife!

The Reception

“Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Calliat

When being introduced to the crowd at the reception, my wedding party walked in to this sweet song. Originally, we were going to have it be “A Pirate Looks at Forty” by Jimmy Buffett, since the wedding was on the water, but then after listening to the lyrics, we realized that it might not be the best idea 😉

“I’ll Be There for You” by The Rembrandts

Those of you that know me even a little bit are aware that I’m kind of sort of OBSESSED with the television show Friends. Because of this, I felt as those C and I had to enter the reception to the Friends theme song!

“I Wanna Grow Old with You” from The Wedding Singer

This was the song for our first dance, and I am absolutely in love with it. We decided to use the Broadway version, since Laura Benanti makes my heart happy, and I just thought it was prettier in general. One of my bridesmaids, Macy, gave us a picture with the lyrics to this song as a wedding gift, and it now hangs in our bedroom.

“The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra

I fell in love with this song during Father of the Bride, so of course my dad and I dance to it for our Father-Daughter Dance.

“Child of Mine” by Carole King

C and his mom danced to this. I love me some Carole King, and this song was just the sweetest for the two of them.

“Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake

We had to end the night with a bang, so JT it is!
