Happy Tuesday folks! Today is a great day to try some new things, so I’m here to suggest some items to add to your list!
Chobani Flip PB&J Greek Yogurt
Funny enough, I don’t like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (peanut butter is enough for me, thank you), but this yogurt is delicious! Strawberry yogurt with peanut butter pieces…just the perfect healthy snack!
Game of Thrones
Of course, the fact that Game of Thrones is awesome is nothing new, but there’s no time like the present to check it out!
Registering with Amazon
We decided to have two baby registries: Buy Buy Baby and Amazon. While both have been great, I really have to give it up to Amazon for making it so easy to add items from other sites AND for making it so easy to send thank you notes to those who have sent us gifts early.
“The World Was Wide Enough” from the Hamilton Soundtrack
Today I’m recounting a day of my life. Each day is a little different, depending on plans and such, but a lot of most workdays is redundantly similar. However, since Friday including baby things, I felt it would be a good one to document!
6:45 AM–Rise and Shine!
Typically, I’m up by 6:30, but since I had a doctor’s appointment on this morning, I got an extra 15 minutes of sleep.
7:22 AM–On My Way!
After taking a shower, getting dressed and throwing some chicken and stock in the crockpot for that night’s dinner, I’m in the car and on the road!
7:37 AM–Bookin’ It
After getting gas, I start listening to The Secrets of My Life by Caitlyn Jenner. Not too shabby so far.
7:46 AM–Smoothie Time!
Whenever I have a baby doctor appointment, I try to treat myself to an Angel Food Smoothie (without the added sugar) from Smoothie King.
8:38 AM–Time to Hear the Baby!
My appointment was for 9:15, but I always arrive early, just in case. The doctor was really happy with my progress, even though I had gained 5 pounds in 2 weeks (although some of that has to be the baby, right?). But my blood pressure was good, the baby’s heartbeat was strong, and she even kicked the doctor lol! I was able to make all of my doctor’s appointments through delivery–eek, it’s so soon!!!
10:15 AM–Back to Work
I arrive at work just in time to get on a conference call that I thought I would have to hand over to my coworker. This meant sitting on the phone for an hour until they finally got to my topic. Sigh.
11:45 AM–Lunch Time
I’m lucky enough to have a cafe on the campus of my work, which has delicious food. Today I scarfed down a veggie burger and a cup of Maryland crab soup. If only walking over there in the ridiculous heat had been better…
12:30-4:30 PM–Work Work Work
6:15 PM–Finally Home
I finally arrive home after being stuck in a TON of traffic. Luckily, all I needed to do to dinner was add chiles and chili powder, and the crockpot chicken taco recipe from Mix and Match Mama was complete! While C and I chowed down on tacos, we watched some Parks and Rec, including the episode that featured this moment:
7:30–Playtime for the Pups
We took the puppies outside for some playtime! Linus loved playing with his ring, but Emmy was must more interested in rolling around in some grass.
8:00–Chillin with Animal Crossing
C and I spent the rest of the evening in an incredibly exciting way–playing Animal Crossing next to each other on the couch.
After a long time, it was finally time for me to hit the hay.
With baby’s arrival just around the corner, I am in desperate need of some organization. My to-do lists have gotten a little out of control (you should see my fridge). But I love this goal board that Meg made because it not only focuses on the immediate goals but the future goals as well. Don’t you want to add this to your kitchen or office?
Honestly, there are some days that I want to pack up, move to Texas and live with the Shull family. They’re completely adorable, and Shay knows how to cook like none other! Until they formally ask me to come and live with them, I’m going to try to incorporate some of these delicious slow cooker recipes into my meal plan.
In the summer, even when it’s really hot, I find myself outdoors much more than usual. And let’s be honest, there are substantially more Insta-worthy pics taken throughout the summer than when I’m stuck inside for the winter. Luckily, Mar shared a post with fantastic hashtags to use when you’re spending time outside!
When you’re on a long road trip, the easiest move is to hit up a fast food joint. Sure, you’re usually super angry at yourself afterwards, but you don’t have to be! Jessica put together a list of popular fast food establishments and ways to eat healthier while you’re there. Then when you get to the beach, you won’t have to worry about whether or not you’ll still fit into that bikini!
The hubs and I are homebodies FOR SURE. So the majority of our “date nights” include ordering in food and watching Parks and Recreation (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I’m so thankful that Erin created this post that gives me some more great ideas for dates without having to leave our house!
Happy Thursday all! The Emmy Award nominations were announced last week, and I can’t wait til September 17th to see who wins. Okay, I actually also can’t wait because that’s the day the baby is due, but hopefully while I’m in labor, I can watch the show and see these faves of my take home awards!
Outstanding Choreography: Travis Wall
I distinctly remember loving him when he was a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance, but as a choreographer, I love him all the more. He puts so much feeling and emotion into each dance, and I have been brought to tears more than once by his choreography.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Sterling K. Brown
Randall from This is Us is one of my absolute favorite characters on television right now. I swear that I cried for HOURS after watching the episode where he has an anxiety attack because his performance was so real and raw. If he doesn’t win, I may throw something at the television.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Ty Burrell
Honestly, who doesn’t love Phil Dunphy? I could watch episodes of Modern Family over and over just to hear his fabulous one-liners. He is hilarious in every single episode.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Samira Wiley
I used to be a big fan of Samira Wiley when I watched Orange is the New Black, but she blew me away in The Handmaid’s Tale. I am so excited to see what happens to her in Season 2 after all of her awesome exploits in Season 1.
Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series: Lin-Manuel Miranda
Because I definitely watched his opening over and over again…
Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series: Alexis Bledel
Man, this girl can do SO much more than Rory Gilmore. After watching the first couple of Handmaid’s Tale episodes, I tweeted that Alexis needed an Emmy nom FOR SURE. And sure enough, she got it. Will I throw things if she doesn’t win? Probably not outwardly, but I will be SORELY disappointed because she totally deserves it.
She’s rockin and rolling around. She managed to turn herself from head down to breach and then back again numerous times. I just hope she gets herself head down before it’s too crowded for her to make the turn again.
Now that summer has fully kicked into gear, I’m all about ice cream and froyo!
Anything Weird Symptoms?
Reflux is still sticking around, so thank goodness for Tums. And this isn’t a symptom, but it sure it a weird feeling to have a baby hanging out in my ribs!
How Am I Sleeping?
Eh, it hasn’t been the best week for sleep. I have to get up a pee a zillion times a night, plus with life being busy, I haven’t been getting to bed as early as I’d like.
Whitney’s family sure knows how to celebrate holidays! Seriously, this crafty mama is so impressive and makes sure that her kids are always having a creatively educational time. So I’m not at all surprised that her friends are just as creative and had the coolest games at a Fourth of July barbecue! My personal favorite was the Shirt of Fun!
As someone who is TRYING to cook more, I always appreciate an awesome cookbook. The list of Leslie’s favorite cookbooks not only will allow me to find some great one for myself (i.e. one that’s all about tacos!!!!), but any of these would also make a great gift!
With baby girl due to arrive in a couple months, I want to make sure that C and I have some one-on-one time before we’re a family of three. Luckily, I can always turn to Jacqui for ideas on how to have a great time! Definitely check out her list of awesome date ideas for this summer–I love the idea of the arcade prize exchange!
I always knew that I liked Erin for a reason, and this post totally proved it to me. First of all, I love any occasion when I can make up a poem, and I’m awfully self-deprecating when it comes to my cooking mishaps. Erin managed to merge the two in one of my favorite posts. And what’s more impressive–she salvaged the meal and turned it into something else!
Happy Thursday folks! Does anyone else need the weekend like nobody’s business? Here are some of the thoughts that have been percolating in my brain this week:
Did anyone else enjoy Prime Day? Man, it’s totally the Wild Wild West up on that site during Prime Day, but I still managed to get this cool water bottle and a diaper bag backpack for C! And C…got us a Roomba!!! And this means that it’s only a matter of time until it turns into this…
Those who are longtime readers of this blog know that I’m not the hugest fan of Dean from Gilmore Girls. I may have even referred to him as a “garbage boyfriend” from time to time (although he did redeem himself in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life), but I am loving the heck outta Dean on The Bachelorette. While I don’t necessarily think that he’s the best match for Rachel, I do think he’s adorable and will be snagged up VERY quickly after the show airs.
9 1/2 Weeks
Baby Girl is due to arrive in 9 1/2 weeks. I distinctly remember when I was only 9 1/2 weeks pregnant! The countdown is ON, folks!
You know, I waited months for this book, and by the time I finally could get it from the library, I was underwhelmed. I enjoyed hearing about her Broadway days and what goes on behind the scenes of awards shows. Oh, and I was a fan of her dream holiday parties. But overall, it just rubbed me the wrong way. Kind of like she was trying to say certain things just for the shock value? Still, I’m an AK fan, so I’m glad that she took the time to write the book.
I’m in the middle of a book now for Erin’s Book Challenge, and hopefully I’ll have more than one book to review for next month!
