Happy Monday! From now until the end of my pregnancy, I’m going to try to update you on my journey to becoming a mama. So, here’s how things are at 13 weeks!
Baby Girl is the Size of a…
Scoop of ice cream!
What’s Going On In There?
This week, Baby Girl is strengthening her vocal cords (oh jeez…) and is growing tiny nails on her fingers and toes!
I don’t weigh myself everyday, so I haven’t been weighed since I was at 10 weeks, and at that point, I had only gained a pound.
Every once in a while, I’ll smell something or see a picture of something and think, “Ooooh I need that right now, or someone will have their arm ripped off!” But these usually pass lol. One weird thing is that I HATE tuna fish, but every time I smell it, I start salivating. Weird…
Anything Making Me Sick?
I’ve only had morning sickness 4 times throughout these 13 weeks, so I count myself pretty lucky. But my sense of smell is so heightened that it’ll send me running to the bathroom from time to time. For example, I tried to make something with Hoisin sauce, and its garlicky smell instantly made me sick 🙁 I also can’t be around vinegar…same reaction.
How Am I Sleeping?
Pretty well. I get tired really early though, so if I make it to 9:30 pm, it’s quite an accomplishment. I’m REALLY going to try and stay up for The Bachelor tonight though…
What Do I Miss?
Coffee. And all the fantastical Starbucks coffee drinks. Yes, I know that pregnant women can have a cup of coffee each day, but I slowly weaned myself off of it. And now when I see my husband trying out the new Iced Cinnamon Almond Milk Macchiato, I sigh and dream of September.
Other Pregnancy Symptoms?
Sometimes I get some round ligament pain, as this little girl is growing. And the weirdest symptom is that there are times where things just taste strange. For example, I was using a metal fork one night and had to switch to a plastic one because the FORK tasted “too metal-ly” (an exact preggo quote from me).
Prepping for Baby Girl
Last weekend, my mom and I went to Buy Buy Baby and worked on the registry! It was like being in baby wonderland, and we were there for FOUR HOURS. Some of the cutest items on the registry are this blanket:
While we were out shopping anyway, Mom and I went into Destination Maternity, and I bought some maternity clothes. Damn y’all, there is nothing in the world more comfortable than these clothes…I can’t wait to wear them all!
I’ll be back next week with more Baby Girl updates!
Happy Friday everyone, and thank you SO much for all of your kind words about our baby girl! I can’t wait to meet her in September, but in the meantime, I’m so glad that you’ll all be along for the journey!
1–When We Found Out
We found out that we were pregnant on January 9, 2017. I needed some fertility help because of my age (more about that in a future post), and when I went in for my blood test, I was sure that I was not pregnant. In fact, 2 days earlier, I had told my cousin that the only reason I wouldn’t be able to be in her wedding would be if I were pregnant at the very moment. Wellllllll….
Like I said, a nurse called me with the news. I was at work and was fully prepared to start discussing the next steps to try and get pregnant again…when she said, “Good news! You’re pregnant!” I’m glad I was sitting down! I said, “WHAT?! I didn’t think that I was!” And she said, “Well, you are!”
After getting off of the phone with the nurse, I immediately called my husband. Luckily, C was working from home that day because he had taken our pup to the vet that morning (Pup was fine BTW). C’s reaction was adorable: “Yeah! We did it!”
Originally, we thought our little girl was due on September 21st, but the doctors believe she’s due on the 17th. It’s so fitting, since both my brother and I were born in September, and I’m glad my daughter will be born in that month (most likely), too.
We’re keeping it a secret! Once we found out that we are having a girl, we were a little relieved, since C and I had a good name picked out for a girl, but we’ve been struggling with picking out a boy’s name. It’s a name that will be very meaningful to the both of us though.
It’s the first Tuesday of the month, so it’s time to recap February with Emelia and Macy! Keep reading til the end–there’s a great surprise!
The first Saturday in February was spent with a group of our friends, making pizzas and playing games. Well, that was the initial idea. The pizza-making took a LOT longer than anticipated, so instead we made pizzas, and I bailed after one game of Uno.
I gathered with my in-laws for our yearly viewing of the Superbowl! Delicious (although super spicy) chili was consumed, and I was lauded for bringing Diablo Donuts for dessert. I thought Lady Gaga did an AWESOME job, but my personal favorite was the ladies from Hamilton.
I celebrated Galentine’s Day with a few of my best gals (and hopefully made Leslie Knope proud!)
We celebrated my brother-in-law’s birthday twice: once at B. A Bolton Hill Bistro and once with pizza at his house.
That’s right! I spent the month of February keeping this very big secret, but I’m having a baby girl in September! I’ll be talking more about our journey to pregnancy in the blog, but right now, I’m OVER THE MOON with excitement!! Current moms, I could use all the advice you have!
